target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the proposed design of the Route 234-Brentsville Road Interchange Project<\/a> on November 22, 2021.\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/?p=1871\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince William County will hold a Design Public Hearing regarding this proposed highway design on December 8, 2021<\/a>:<\/em><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div><em><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<div><strong>PROBLEM:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><b>Forcing bicycle and pedestrian users to cross FOUR separate free-flowing, high-speed vehicle lanes is an unacceptable way to connect two of the major trails in the county.\u00a0 The section should be removed from the design.\u00a0 It is too dangerous.\u00a0 <\/b>[Added Note: The proposed design forces bicyclists and pedestrians to negotiate a <strong>fifth<\/strong> high-speed at-grade road crossing (of the ramp from northbound Brentsville Road to southbound Route 234) to actually link these two major trails.\u00a0 Furthermore, to access or egress Route 234 Business\/Dumfries Rd, bicyclists and pedestrians would be forced to negotiate a <strong>sixth<\/strong> high-speed at-grade road crossing <strong>plus 12 vehicle lanes<\/strong> at <strong>two<\/strong> controlled intersection legs at Bradley Cemetery Way.]<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1928 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-1-300x240.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>RECOMMENDED SOLUTION:<\/b><br \/>\n<b>Add an additional bike\/ped bridge crossing of Route 234 south\/east of the planned interchange to directly and safely connect the Route 234 Trail and the Prince William Parkway Trail.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1929 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-2-300x230.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-2-300x230.png 300w, https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-2.png 622w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>HOW TO PAY FOR THIS RECOMMENDED SOLUTION:<\/b><br \/>\n1) Remove the proposed bike\/ped infrastructure with four at-grade roadway crossings from the Bradley Cemetery Way area:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1930 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-3-300x106.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-3-300x106.png 300w, https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-3-1024x360.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-3-676x238.png 676w, https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-3.png 1268w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>2) Change the Continuous Green-T Intersection at Brentsville Road and the off-ramp from VA234 Bypass South to a Roundabout, Standard Two-Phase Traffic Light or a Three-Way Stop Sign.\u00a0 Future traffic volumes do not warrant the expensive infrastructure needed for a Continuous Green-T Intersection.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1931 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-4-300x290.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"581\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-4-300x290.png 300w, https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-4.png 564w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0 Remove one northbound lane from the planned Brentsville Road Bridge to create a smaller\/cheaper bridge footprint.\u00a0 Future traffic volumes do not warrant having two northbound vehicle lanes on this bridge.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1932 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.activepw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/234-Brent-5-300x106.png\"
